Alamo Area South Texas, Indiana and Washington Receive Awards
CHICAGO, Nov. 20, 2009 — The Alamo Area South Texas, Indiana, and Washington chapters of the Council of Residential Specialists were named the CRS Chapters of the Year during the Council’s inaugural and awards ceremony in San Diego last week. The Chapter of the Year award is given annually to CRS chapters in three categories – small, medium and large – in recognition for their outstanding efforts to advance the Council’s mission and further the organization’s goals and objectives at the chapter level.
The Alamo Area South Texas chapter won in the small-chapter category. It raised the chapter’s profile among consumers and real estate professionals by introducing CRS benefits and education programs in new communities in Texas, reaching out to members through Facebook and LinkedIn, being featured in several local print and online publications, and holding leadership positions with the San Antonio Board of Realtors, and other local, state and national real estate associations. The chapter also raised $9,000 for the Warrior and Family Support Center, which helps wounded military personnel and their families.
The Indiana CRS chapter won in the medium-size chapter category. The chapter implemented an innovative membership campaign to reinstate dropped Council members, which helped increase their membership from 253 in January to 428 in August. The chapter also held an auction which raised more than $5,600 to benefit the Riley Hospital for Children, and it is planning a food drive to help a local food bank.
The Washington CRS chapter won among the large chapters. The chapter demonstrated a tremendous ability to promote the CRS designation and chapter activities using various resources. As a testament to the chapter’s dedication to marketing CRS courses, the courses it sponsored in 2009 averaged 62 students and no course cancellations. The Washington CRS chapter raised $1,104 for Habitat for Humanity and held several Habitat for Humanity workdays to support the organization’s building efforts.
